![]() | Resident Evil: Director's Cut
Buy new: $108.99 / Used from: $14.00 Resident Cheeseful. The one that started it all. It's dated, but it's still a great game, even today. You gotta love the cheesy B-horror movie dialogue. You'll want to get the Director's Cut version for the added features and gameplay enhancements over the original. Be sure to get the original black label version. The Greatest Hits changes all of the classic music, and not for the better.

![]() | Resident Evil
Buy used from: $40.00 The Saturn version of the original Resident Evil is worth noting for an exclusive Battle mini-game which features a zombie Wesker. I would also say that the character models are slightly improved over its Playstation cousin's, but it has poor transparency effects, and overall, its graphics are not quite up to par with the PSX version's.
|
![]() | Resident Evil Deadly Silence
Buy new: $42.49 / Used from: $18.24 It's the original in portable form for the Nintendo DS. The character models are slightly enhanced over the original, but I can't say the same for the pre-rendered backgrounds. It also sports some cool, exclusive features and enhancements of its own that make use of the DS's touchscreen and microphone. There's also a co-op mini-game.

![]() | Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero
Buy new: $34.98 / Used from: $23.98 RE0 has the great graphics, presentation and gameplay of REmake. However, the absence of the item boxes proved to be a pain, and the game that was supposed to "clear up any questions/plot holes", just created new ones. This is the story that unfolded before the events of the original Resident Evil. The Wii "Archives" edition runs in a slightly higher resolution than the original Gamecube release.

![]() | Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $14.98 The REmake of the original Resident Evil. Superb graphics and presentation. Lots of new gameplay enhancements, and enough tweaks made to the design of the mansion to make it a fresh experience for veterans. It doesn't get much better than this. It's probably my personal favorite. The Wii "Archives" edition runs in a slightly higher resolution than the original Gamecube release.
|
![]() | Resident Evil 2
Buy used from: $23.99 The Dreamcast port is the best version of RE2. It's basically the Dual Shock edition, but it sports the best graphics of all the ports, and runs in a higher resolution than the Gamecube port. It also has cool extras like a movie viewer, concept art, Extreme Battle, etc. The Gamecube version is NOT a good port of this game. It is a sloppy, low-quality port. This is the version you want.
|
![]() | Resident Evil 2
Buy new: $74.99 / Used from: $12.74 The N64 version of RE2 gets an honorable mention, because of some extras not featured in any other port. The re-arranger mode, exclusive outfits, Ex-Files, etc. But cutscenes don't look so hot and sound is horrible. The Extreme Battle mini-game is also absent.
|
![]() | Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Buy new: $25.94 / Used from: $17.98 The Gamecube port is the best version of RE3. No extras or anything, but it sports the best graphics of all the console ports. The Dreamcast version allows you to choose from all of the alternate outfits from the very start without having to unlock them, but this version looks the best. This is probably the most action-packed of the classic Resident Evil titles.
|
![]() | Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Buy used from: $35.00 The PS2 and Gamecube "X" ports are the best versions of Code Veronica, because of the new scenes added over the Dreamcast version. However, the Gamecube version of Code Veronica X has slightly better graphics than the PS2 version. This was a great game, but it marks the beginning of the silly plot twists and retconning that have been prominent in the series ever since.
|
![]() | Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Buy new: $35.00 / Used from: $11.51 A fun on-rails shooter that's best played with a friend in co-op. It recaps some of the events from the past titles, and also serves to fill in the huge gap in the storyline between Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4, so it's essential for your RE collection.
|
![]() | Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Buy new: $23.05 / Used from: $17.75 The sequel to The Umbrella Chronicles. Another fun on-rails shooter. Like Umbrella Chronicles before it, the game recaps some of the events from the older titles, as well as adds new scenarios that serve to flesh-out the storyline and lead-in to the events of RE4. STILL, it leaves two huge plot threads that this particular storyline had the perfect opportunity to fill.
|
![]() | Resident Evil 4
Buy new: $13.68 / Used from: $5.99 Great game, but didn't feel like Resident Evil. The Wii version wins for the extra scenes, Ada side-quests, and new weapons that were originally added to the PS2 version, as well as the Wiimote controls that enhance the gameplay that much more. It's no wonder why people want to see RE5 on the Wii. It also supports the Gamecube/Classic controllers if you wanna go back to the old way.
|
![]() | Resident Evil: Degeneration [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.22 Well, not that it's saying a much, but it's better than the live-action movies. It's kind of a shame that Claire's character gets pushed into the sidelines in favor of a new love interest for Leon, but the RE2 flashbacks are kind of cool. The ending of this movie also serves as a lead-in to the Resident Evil 5 storyline.
|
![]() | Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition
Buy new: $27.81 / Used from: $20.60 Good game. Almost as fitting of a conclusion to the series that you could get in the aftermath of RE4. However, it didn't quite tie up all the loose ends. It's basically RE4 with co-op. Although the horror element is practically non-existant. The PS3 Gold Edition is the best version, simply because all of the new downloadable content is included in the bluray disc.

![]() | Resident Evil Archives by BradyGames
Buy used from: $160.00 Great book for any RE fan, but there are quite a few typographical errors, and it doesn't exactly clear up all the questions you may have had about the RE story/timeline. Update: It should be noted that this book was published before The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil 4/5. It's all about Umbrella, so don't expect to see anything about RE4 and onward here.
